Rafa Mir has been sentenced to eight and a half years in prison by the TSJCV for sexual assault and injuries, a ruling that is not yet final. The Elche forward has confirmed he will appeal.

The court imposed seven years for sexual assault and one and a half years for injuries, plus seven years of supervised release. It set a 500 metre restraining order and 13-year communication ban, and €64,000 compensation. A post-release ban on roles involving regular contact with minors for more than eight years was reported by Las Provincias.

The Fourth Section of the Valencia court convicted Mir over an incident in September 2024. Although he said the encounter was consensual, the judgment found the complainant credible, her account plausible and her accusation consistent, sufficient to overcome the presumption of innocence.

Mir said on social media that he disagrees with the ruling, will file an appeal in the coming days and still trusts the justice system.

He is on loan at Elche from Sevilla until 30 June, with a non-obligatory purchase option. Elche considered triggering it but the process stalled as the club awaited the verdict. Mir remains under contract at Sevilla until June 2027.

In principle, it will be lodged first with the Tribunal Superior, and could then reach the Supreme Court. A definitive outcome could be known within months, potentially by early next year, once all appeal routes are exhausted.
