One of the main tasks for FC Barcelona this summer is to replace Robert Lewandowski, who left the Blaugrana club at the end of the last season and has now joined Chicago Fire. For this purpose, their main target remains the Atletico Madrid forward Julian Alvarez.

The Catalans are seemingly intent to try their best to land the Argentine this summer, particularly after the player himself publicly declared his intent to leave the Colchonero club. However, their acquisition of the forward is still not guaranteed, and as a result, they are being linked with some other names as well.

In this regard, the last few days have seen them once again being linked with the English superstar Harry Kane. While these links are still not too strong, this matter is already attracting attention of some commentators, particularly from Kane’s home country, England.

As SPORT has noted, the former Manchester United player Gary Neville was one high-profile commentator who commented on this matter while talking to Sky Sports.

The former defender was quite clear that both Barcelona and Kane would benefit from such a move:

“I understand why Barcelona would want him. I can understand why any club in the world that wants to win trophies at the highest level would want him in their squad.”

“Harry Kane is as reliable as they come. In football, and in life, you want reliability. You want players you know will live up to your expectations. He does, and he does it at the highest level. He’s a proven goalscorer and a key player for any team that, like Barça, wants to win everything.”

There is no doubt that the Englishman would be an ideal candidate to replace Robert Lewandowski at Barcelona. Like the Pole, he would bring a lot of experience playing at the highest level and a proven goalscoring record to the Catalan team. Moreover, his playmaking skills can make him an even better fit for the Blaugrana team than Lewandowski was.

The only concern would be his age, as he is already 32 years old. However, in this aspect as well their experience with Lewandowski would be encouraging, as he was 33 years of age when he joined the Blaugrana team, and was still able to contribute a lot during his four seasons at the club. For now, it remains to be seen how this story develops, but signing Harry Kane would make a lot of sense for Barcelona.
