Inter manager Cristian Chivu showed optimism about his team’s chances in the second leg of the Champions League playoff tie against Bodo/Glimt.
Speaking to the press (via Inter.it) following the Nerazzurri’s 2-0 victory over Lecce, Chivu lifted the mood around the club for the upcoming Champions League second leg clash against Bodo/Glimt. The first leg ended in a 3-1 loss for Inter in the Arctic Circle but everything can change with the crowd at their back at San Siro. The head coach said: “We saw what happened on Wednesday in Bodo, we have to be ready for Tuesday, the game is still wide open, qualification is in the balance.”
The Romanian manager grounded his team’s performance in the victory over Lecce that saw them go clear by ten points at the Serie A summit. He recognised the shortcomings they have experienced in the match, and talked about repairing those in the future. Chivu remarked: “Today we should have made better use of set pieces. We had a lot of them, but in the first half, we weren’t able to maximize them. We have two extraordinary players who made the most of them and Federico Dimarco, who has a fantastic left foot, and we know we can do better in these situations. We are aware of the difficulties of every match and that no one gives us anything.”
Finally, he gave some positive news on the recovery of Denzel Dumfries and Hakan Calhanoglu as the former is set to join training from tomorrow and the Turkish midfielder will be back on Monday. The boss said: “Dumfries has made some progress in recent weeks: from tomorrow he will officially be back in the group and available. Calhanoglu is also doing well and I think he will be back with the group from Monday.”
