Inter Milan coach Simone Inzaghi will decide whether to start Nicolo Barella or Davide Frattesi against Roma at the last minute.

This according to Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, via FCInterNews. They report that Barella could be reintegrated into the team gradually rather than coming straight back into the lineup.

Inter coach Inzaghi will have a number of considerations on his mind as far as his midfield selection against Roma tomorrow.

The Nerazzurri will be without two of his six senior midfielders. Both Piotr Zielinski and Kristjan Asllani will be absent due to injury.

Meanwhile, the Gazzetta predict, there is no doubt that both Henrikh Mkhitaryan and Hakan Calhanoglu will start.

That leaves two players vying for one remaining spot in the midfield trio.

And both are Italian internationals.

Inzaghi To Leave Barella Frattesi Choice To Last Minute Vs Roma

Nicolo Barella is back fit and available after missing a few matches prior to the international break.

The 27-year-old spent the break recovering from a thigh strain.

Therefore, there is no reason why Barella could not start against Roma tomorrow.

However, the Gazzetta report, there is no guarantee that Barella will come straight back into the starting eleven.

In Inter’s matches against Udinese and Torino, Davide Frattesi deputized for the former Cagliari midfielder.

And Frattesi convinced with his performances.

Therefore, Inzaghi could decide to stick with the 25-year-old rather than starting Barella.

Moreover, there is the fact that Barella has been out for a month. Inzaghi will want to manage his return to the team, as he may not be quite at his best yet.

And in that case, Barella is likely to start on the bench for at least one of Inter’s next three matches.

In midweek, the Nerazzurri face Young Boys in the Champions League. Then next weekend, it is Juventus in Serie A.

Barella will certainly be a player Inzaghi wants in the starting lineup to face the Bianconeri.

Therefore, the Inter coach will consider whether he wants to start the 27-year-old tomorrow, or against Young Boys.

And in that case, it could be dependent on whether Inzaghi expects the likes of Zielinski and Asllani to recover for the midweek match. He will be thinking about how he balances the rotation of his entire midfield.
