Inter Milan treble hero Marco Materazzi poked fun at the expense of AC Milan advisor Zlatan Ibrahimovic.

The two men were teammates between 2006 and 2009, but then became foes following the Swede’s return to Milan through the Rossoneri gates in 2010.

After hanging his boots, the iconic striker became an advisor at Milan. Nevertheless, he has been reportedly at odds with some of the club’s top officials when it comes to decision-making.

Milan are currently enduring a difficult start to the season under the guidance of Paulo Fonseca who’s already facing the sack.

This unpleasant situation has earned Ibrahimovic and the other Milan directors some backlash.

And with the Derby upon us, Materazzi could not help himself from aiming a dig at his old rival.

The 2006 World Cup hero and villain said he hopes Milan never bring back their former captain and technical director Paolo Maldini. The latter built the squad that won the Serie A title in 2021/22.

“Ibrahimovic says he’s in charge? Well, honestly, his words don’t make any impression on me,” said the Italian in his interview with La Gazzetta dello Sport via FcInterNews.

“Let’s say that these words are part of the character. I feel like saying this, as an Inter fan, I hope Milan never takes Paolo Maldini back.”

Aside from his usual banter, Materazzi also insisted Inter would send a massive blow to their Serie A title rivals by beating Milan.

“Taking three points on Sunday would be something difficult to digest for the rivals in the Scudetto race. A hard blow.”

The retired defender also applauded the Nerazzurri for their confident approach against Manchester City.

“The key for Inter is the confidence they convey, against any opponent. And this is reassuring ahead of the Derby.

“Did you see Zielinski against Man City? He seemed to have been playing for Inter all his life.”
