Ruben Selles has endured a difficult start to life as Sheffield United manager after being appointed as Chris Wilder’s successor in the summer.

The Spaniard made the move from Hull City, having departed the Tigers at the end of the previous campaign following their survival against relegation.

But the Blades have lost each of their opening four fixtures in this term, leaving them bottom of the table during the September international break.

While it’s still early days in the campaign, the 42-year-old is already under pressure to keep his position at Bramall Lane.

Ex-Sheffield Wednesday manager Danny Rohl dismissed as potential Sheffield United option if Blades sack Selles

When asked if Danny Rohl is someone Sheffield United might turn to if Selles is sacked, Football League World's Sheffield Wednesday fan pundit, Patrick McKenna, dismissed the idea entirely.

He believes that the German would not be a good fit for the Owls’ bitter rivals, suggesting that someone more akin to Chris Wilder or Neil Warnock would be a better fit.

“I think, first of all, you have to understand that there was a daft rumour going about in the summer that he had chatted to them, but it was nonsense and it seemed to be part of an art of Rohl going about exaggerating the sort of contact he was having with clubs,” McKenna told Football League World.

“But, let’s be honest, Danny Rohl will get a better job than turning up at a club like Sheffield United.

“He is a very talented manager, and he will go to the top, so why would you go to the bottom and shuffle on down to Bramall Lane?

“Already you can see that some of them are pining for Wilder to come back.

“Their fanbase desire the Wilder/Warnock type of manager who can come in and pander to them with the chip on the shoulder..

“So, someone like Danny Rohl coming in with professionalism, intelligence and charisma, it just wouldn’t work.

“So, no I don’t think Danny would ever go there.

“So the Blades, as far as I’m concerned, can struggle on with Ruben Selles, and if they are to get in a new manager, I’m sorry, but it’s not going to be Danny Rohl.”

Sheffield Wednesday and Sheffield United occupy two of the three places in the relegation zone in these early stages of the campaign.

The Owls earned a point against Wrexham leaving them ahead of their bitter rivals, with the two sides not set to meet until 23 November.

Danny Rohl will have better options that Sheffield United

Rohl rightly earned a lot of credit for the work he did at Hillsborough, and there is no doubt he will be back working as a coach again soon.

The issues behind the scenes at Sheffield Wednesday held him back, but bringing that team from almost certain relegation to 12th in the Championship over the course of 18 months has enhanced his reputation greatly.

It would be a surprise if he turned up at Bramall Lane, as he’s someone that could be looking at top flight work elsewhere.

A return to Germany could be on the cards in the near future, and it wouldn’t be too surprising if he even turned up at a promotion-challenging side in the Championship, or perhaps even a struggling Premier League team.
