In a huge development, MARCA reports that Inter Milan defender Alessandro Bastoni has said ‘yes’ to a summer transfer to FC Barcelona.

As part of planning for next season’s squad, signing a central defender is one of the main priorities for the Blaugrana. The sporting department is looking for a left-footed central defender comfortable with the ball at his feet and strong in the air.

As such, the 26-year-old Bastoni has emerged as the top target for the Catalans to strengthen their defence heading into the summer transfer window.

Green light received

Now, as per the report, Bastoni is willing to join the Catalan club and has opened the door for negotiations with Inter Milan.

Although no formal negotiations have yet taken place, Barcelona have made initial contact with the Italian defender, who has expressed his desire to join the club next season. Indeed, the 26-year-old would be willing to move to the Spotify Camp Nou.

In this context, the La Liga champions have already received Bastoni’s green light to pursue a move ahead of next season.

Finances a concern

The main obstacle will be the player’s price. His market value is estimated at around €70 million, a very high figure.

Barça continue to face Financial Fair Play constraints ahead of the next season. While there is confidence in reaching the 1:1 rule, this does not provide unlimited spending capacity, as the club must also balance its accounts with the signing of a striker.

For this reason, and with Barcelona entering the most important phase of the season, they are currently limiting themselves to sounding out both players and their clubs regarding potential reinforcements.

Once the picture regarding the Fair Play situation becomes clearer, talks with Inter Milan could begin, with the possibility of Barcelona offering a player in swap not being ruled out.
