Kalvin Phillips 'to rejoin' Sheffield United on season loan, reuniting with Patrick Bamford | OneFootball

Kalvin Phillips is finalising a second loan spell at Sheffield United for the 2026/27 season, with Chris Wilder keen on a reunion, The Daily Mail reports.

The development follows his omission from Enzo Maresca's 28-man squad for Manchester City's pre-season tour of Asia on Tuesday.

Phillips spent the second half of last season at Bramall Lane but made only three appearances, the last ending in a red card against Sheffield Wednesday. He suffered a knee injury in that game, needed surgery and his loan ended early.

Phillips has two years left on the six-year deal he signed in 2022 and has no future at the Etihad. Before January he managed an eight-minute outing in a 3-0 Carabao Cup win over Huddersfield Town, and he has started just two Premier League games since joining City. Loans at Ipswich Town and West Ham underwhelmed amid injury and limited sharpness.

Earlier this summer, The Star reported he would welcome a return to Bramall Lane, with the January move having allowed him to live closer to family.

He was also credited with helping younger midfielders Oliver Arblaster and Sydie Peck, aged 22 and 21.

A return would reunite the Leeds promotion winner with former Elland Road team-mate Patrick Bamford, who joined the Blades as a free agent last year. Bamford initially signed a short-term deal before agreeing fresh terms on an 18-month contract in January.
