Sunderland could face two January exits involving Dan Neil and Arthur Masuaku as the window enters its final week. A decision on Chris Rigg also remains open.

According to Sunderland Echo, Neil will miss the Premier League trip to West Ham, intensifying talk over a move, with Rangers thought to be leading under former Sheffield Wednesday boss Danny Röhl.

A six-month loan to RC Lens is said to be close. Masuaku has agreed personal terms and a club agreement is said to be in place. He joined last summer on a free from Besiktas on a two-year deal.

Lens have won 10 straight in all competitions and briefly topped Ligue 1 before Paris Saint-Germain’s latest result. They are covering Deiver Machado’s move to Nantes. Masuaku is fit after featuring in the Democratic Republic of Congo’s first two Africa Cup of Nations games.

His leadership, he is one of DR Congo’s captains, is a key draw and the deal is viewed as low-cost and low-risk. If both moves happen, Sunderland could then seek reinforcements.

Régis Le Bris says both a loan and staying on Wearside remain under consideration for Rigg. The 18-year-old has 11 appearances and played 90 minutes for the Under-21s against Borussia Dortmund this week.

With midfielders, including Habib Diarra, set to return from the Africa Cup of Nations, a decision is expected near the deadline. Sunderland see merits in minutes elsewhere and in daily Premier League training.
