Leeds United’s survival bid received a triple boost despite a 1-0 defeat to Manchester City, as three rivals slipped up and one suffered a costly dismissal. According to yorkshireeveningpost.co.uk, the weekend results tightened the pack beneath Daniel Farke’s side.
Farke’s team suffered only a third league loss in 15, with Pep Guardiola’s title chasers winning at Elland Road. Leeds stayed six points above the drop after West Ham lost 5-2 at Liverpool earlier on Saturday.
Fifth-bottom Tottenham could have jumped above Leeds with victory at Fulham on Sunday, but Igor Tudor’s second match ended in a 2-1 defeat. Spurs remain two points behind with 10 games to play.
Forest were also beaten 2-1 at Brighton, leaving the Reds four points adrift of Leeds. The result lifted Brighton to 11th.
Completing the boost, 14th-placed Palace were beaten 2-1 at Manchester United and lost Lacroix to a straight red card. The defender had headed Palace in front, then was dismissed just before the hour for bringing down Matheus Cunha in the area, denying a clear chance. Bruno Fernandes equalised from the spot and set up Benjamin Sesko for the winner.
A Palace win would have put them seven points clear of Leeds, but they stay one place and four points ahead.
