Leeds transfer latest: Trafford deal ‘positive’, Delap stance, Brandt offer still on table | OneFootball

Leeds United are closing on a £40m agreement for Manchester City goalkeeper James Trafford, although the transfer is not yet complete. Club sources remain positive about getting it over the line. The 23-year-old would set a new transfer record.

According to yorkshireeveningpost.co.uk, Trafford is on a FIFA-mandated post-World Cup break until after August eight. Leeds set a precedent when £34m signing Tarik Muharemovic briefly flew in mid-holiday for his medical.

A goalkeeper was a summer priority, with another expected as back-up, plus a centre forward and left-back cover. Carlos Espi, 21, scored 13 in 27 for Levante and is admired, but no move has been made. Leeds are targeting younger forwards to compete with Dominic Calvert-Lewin and are not pursuing Chelsea’s Liam Delap.

Two offers remain. Leeds told Southampton last week their bid for midfielder Shea Charles was best and final. He did not feature in a behind-closed-doors game against Paderborn, and there is no sign the bid has been accepted.

An offer to free agent Julian Brandt still stands. His father visited Thorp Arch for talks and the Brandts are weighing options. There has been no major-outlet corroboration in San Sebastian of any Real Sociedad interest.

Valencia’s valuation of Largie Ramazani is well above Leeds’ stance, yet a return to Mestalla after last season’s loan remains possible if a compromise is reached.
