Leeds United transfer state of play: Delap stance, Trafford progress and Brandt offer | OneFootball

According to yorkshireeveningpost.co.uk, Leeds United are very close to finalising a £40m deal for Manchester City goalkeeper James Trafford, though it is not yet complete. The 23-year-old, formerly of Burnley, is on a FIFA-mandated post-World Cup break due to end after August 8, and there is optimism the move will be concluded.

Leeds set a precedent this summer when £34m signing Tarik Muharemovic briefly cut short his holiday to complete a medical in West Yorkshire before resuming his break.

A first-choice goalkeeper was a priority. The club also plan to add a back-up keeper, a centre forward and left-back cover. Spanish 21-year-old Carlos Espi, who scored 13 in 27 for Levante last season, is on their list but no approach has been made, and younger options are expected to challenge Dominic Calvert-Lewin.

Leeds are not currently pursuing Chelsea's Liam Delap. Two offers remain active, including a best and final bid lodged last week for Southampton midfielder Shea Charles. The Northern Ireland international did not feature in a behind-closed-doors game with Paderborn, and there is no indication the offer has been accepted.

Their proposal to free agent Julian Brandt still stands. His father visited Thorp Arch for talks and the Brandts are assessing all options.

On departures, Valencia's initial valuation of Largie Ramazani was far from Leeds' stance. Even so, a return to Mestalla after last season's loan remains a distinct possibility if the clubs can agree a fee.
