Leeds United are closely monitoring the winger market ahead of the January transfer window after their late move for Fulham’s Harry Wilson collapsed on Deadline Day, Sky Sports reports.

The Welsh international had shown willingness to join Daniel Farke’s side, even signing a deal sheet as Fulham explored attacking reinforcements. However, a last-minute change of circumstances saw Wilson remain at Craven Cottage, where he has since featured in all seven of Fulham’s Premier League fixtures this season, starting five. Manager Marco Silva has since expressed confidence in securing a new contract for the 28-year-old, whose current deal expires at the end of the campaign, making a winter transfer increasingly unlikely.

Leeds’ interest in Wilson reflects their desire to bolster attacking depth following early-season injuries to Dan James and Willy Gnonto. Despite spending over £100m on ten new signings this summer to strengthen the squad’s spine, the lack of natural wide options has become apparent.

Complicating matters, Fulham were reportedly reluctant to sell to Leeds during the summer amid concerns over strengthening a Premier League rival. Financial constraints also play a role, with managing director Robbie Evans admitting that Leeds are already “maxing PSR out this season.” As such, loan signings are expected to be the club’s most viable option in January.

Still, optimism remains at Elland Road. With eight points from their opening seven matches, Leeds are navigating their Premier League return competitively, but further attacking reinforcements could prove crucial in the fight to avoid relegation.
