Leeds United have unveiled their 2026/27 away kit, restoring the Yorkshire Rose crest in a bright yellow design that nods to one of the club’s most successful eras.
According to yorkshireeveningpost.co.uk, a launch film narrated by Lucas Radebe follows supporters on the road, with Anton Stach, Ethan Ampadu, Joe Rodon and Dominic Calvert-Lewin appearing.
The colour echoes the bold yellow that drove record sales ahead of the 2024/25 campaign. In a further retro touch, Leeds move from the 1970s smiley revival on a Championship title-winning strip to the much-loved Yorkshire Rose.
The Rose badge first appeared in 1984 during Eddie Gray’s tenure, with Howard Wilkinson arriving in 1988.
Wilkinson’s side won the Second Division title in their third season in 1989/90, then finished fourth in the First Division the following year.
They went one better in 1991/92, lifting the First Division, the club’s most recent top-flight title.
The 1984 crest was designed by supporter Brenda Reader, who won a Yorkshire Evening Post competition after chairman Leslie Silver was said to consider the 1980-1984 Peacock badge potentially unlucky. Her entry was selected by Gray and the players from hundreds received.
The Yorkshire Rose stayed on shirts until 1998, when it gave way to the shield now seen on modern crests. Despite being dismissed two years earlier, Wilkinson was credited with significant influence over that bold change.
