Leeds United host Sunderland on Tuesday night, with early team news pointing to six players out and three doubts, and two others back in contention. Joe Rodon features among the Leeds updates.
Both clubs were promoted last season, Leeds as champions and Sunderland via a dramatic play-off final win over Sheffield United. According to yorkshireeveningpost.co.uk, Sunderland made a fast start but have slipped to 13th, six points above Leeds, after a 1-1 draw at Bournemouth.
Leeds lost 1-0 at home to Manchester City, and Daniel Farke’s side also sustained a fresh injury blow.
Black Cats captain Granit Xhaka returned from an ankle issue to start at Bournemouth. Bertrand Traore resumed training, made the bench and played the final 21 minutes.
Romaine Mundle suffered a hamstring problem in the 3-1 defeat to Fulham and, with assessments ongoing, head coach Regis Le Bris said it could keep him out for a while. The winger has had a similar issue before.
Jocelin Ta Bi injured an ankle in the same game and might need surgery, which could mean weeks or months out. Brian Brobbey has a groin injury and Nordi Mukiele a knee issue, with both estimated at two to four weeks.
