Liverpool get MASSIVE Antoine Semenyo update

Liverpool spent most of their summer transfer purse on bringing in new some forwards, and with December on the horizon, it's clear that something's off. Another big move is under consideration.

Compounding your mistakes by continuing to throw money at the team might not appear to be a great idea, but when you consider that Luis Diaz wasn't replaced, the idea of bringing some new energy into the side might actually make a lot of sense. We may just need a change in dynamic.

The player in mind is one of the Premier League's brightest stars right now, and he currently resides at Bournemouth - a club that Liverpool's sporting director Richard Hughes used to call home. Over the last few weeks, it's been heavily rumoured that the two could reunite on Merseyside in January.

Now we've been given a formal update on what the club's stance is on it all.

Semenyo isn't a 'planned' transfer

According to Paul Hirst and Paul Joyce at The Times, our interest in Antoine Semenyo is complicated.

In the report, it said: "Manchester City are considering triggering Antoine Semenyo's £65m release clause in January.

"The Times has learnt that City are among a number of clubs monitoring Semenyo's situation and could buy the exciting Bournemouth winger when the transfer window reopens on New Year's Day.

"Liverpool have also been linked with the 25-year-old - their sporting director, Richard Hughes signed him for Bournemouth when he worked at the south-coast club - although they had not planned to enter the winter transfer window after spending more than £400m on new signings in the summer."

The focus on Pep Guaridola's side, rather than making the Reds the focus of the article, tells you that it's presently unlikely that Semenyo will be targeted. That's not to say that he isn't favoured by the Reds' recruitment team, but January might come a little soon, nullifying our chances of signing him.

£65m for a player of Semenyo's calibre is a particularly reasonable fee, and that release clause is reduced when the season ends, although he'll likely be snatched up before then. And when you consider that Liverpool might actually need to focus on a defender before adding to the attack, the moves doesn't make that much sense, although the Ghanaian would certainly be a useful signing.

What seems more fascinating is the re-thinking that Liverpool are potentially having to do, given the bad form that Slot's team has delivered so far this season. January additions might not have been originally planned, but it's plausible that FSG might actually be forced into having a change of heart.

Right now, a move for Semenyo doesn't feel likely. But we might have some twists and turns across December, so it's far from over. For now, City are leading the race, although anything can happen.
