Liverpool have secured the future of one of English football’s brightest young talents, with forward Rio Ngumoha (17) signing his first professional deal with the Premier League champions, BBC Sport reports.
Ngumoha has already made a striking impact at Anfield since joining from Chelsea’s academy in September 2024. He announced himself in dramatic fashion last month, scoring a 100th-minute winner against Newcastle on his Premier League debut. The teenager has since made five senior appearances across all competitions, including his Champions League debut in the recent victory over Atletico Madrid.
Liverpool have not disclosed the length of Ngumoha’s new contract, but the deal reflects the club’s faith in a player regarded as one of the most exciting prospects of his generation. He became Liverpool’s youngest-ever starter in January, aged just 16 years and 135 days, during a 4-0 FA Cup win over Accrington.
Having represented England at various youth levels, Ngumoha made his under-19 debut earlier this month. His decision to leave Chelsea, where he was widely considered the best player of his age group, was driven by the belief that Liverpool offered a clearer pathway to first-team football, a belief that has quickly borne fruit.
