“Look at what we can do better”

Markus Krösche, Albert Riera and Jonathan Burkardt with the reaction to the 0-0 draw at FC St. Pauli.

Board member for sport Markus Krösche: “We weren’t incisive enough and we were a bit too slow playing out from the back, so unfortunately we’ll just have to make do with the point. Looking at the other results over the matchday, it would have been really good to win here, so we have to say that we dropped two points today. We just have to be more clinical and create more chances.”

Head coach Albert Riera: “We looked good at the back for the most part. We’re making progress and have now kept two successive clean sheets. In order to win matches, our first priority must be not to concede any goals. But we have to be better on the ball. We had too many touches and didn’t attack quickly enough. We have to take two touches at most to find a free player. I’m sure we’ll be better in our next game. I’m pleased with the boys’ attitude – you can’t come here to St. Pauli and not give everything in terms of commitment and passion. We gave it our all but we didn’t come away with the win.”

Jonathan Burkardt: “We would have liked to win but we know that St. Pauli have a lot of quality, especially at home. It was very, very tough and an evenly balanced game. A 0-0 draw is a fair result. I would have liked to have had more chances and more touches of the ball, but sometimes you just have days like this. We played out wide and from side to side a lot, but we never really managed to get into dangerous positions in their penalty area. We didn’t get enough runs in behind the defence or crosses. We had a lot of control but not many chances. It wasn’t easy, so we’ll settle for the point. We’ll look at what we can do better.”
