Ruben Amorim’s departure pushes Manchester United into rebuild mode yet again.
Early this morning, United announced that the club’s leadership has reluctantly decided to sack Amorim after 14 months in charge.
The Portuguese tactician’s exit might put brakes on United’s plans when it comes to incomings. They are unlikely to make funds available without a permanent manager in place.
However, the likes of Jason Wilcox and Christopher Vivell will know by now which players are not good enough for United.
Signed from Paris Saint-Germain in a deal worth around £50m, Manuel Ugarte has struggled to find his feet in the Premier League.
The Uruguayan midfielder’s lack of technical ability and positional awareness often leaves him exposed in the middle of the park.
Earlier, The Peoples Person relayed a report claiming Amorim reprimanded Ugarte during the end-of-season meeting at Carrington.
Amorim believed Ugarte, who also played under him at Sporting CP, had “gotten comfortable and said he did not recognise him as the same player from their first stint together.”
The now ex-United head coach only handed Ugarte six starts in the Premier League this campaign.
It has been widely reported that Galatasaray are interested in handing Manuel Ugarte an escape route to Turkey.
On Monday, Turkish publication Sabah (via Sport Witness) reported that former Arsenal midfielder Lucas Torreira has vouched for his compatriot, telling Gala that signing Ugarte is a good idea in January.
It is added that United are open to parting ways with Ugarte. The Red Devils are allegedly willing to accept a loan deal with a €30m mandatory clause for the 24-year-old midfielder.
However, the Istanbul-based outfit want to know whether they will qualify for the Champions League knockout stages before agreeing to spend such a significant figure on the United flop.
Accordingly, Galatasaray might explore the possibility of a loan with a conditional clause to convince United.
Last summer, the Premier League giants allowed Napoli to sign Rasmus Hojlund on loan with an obligation to buy in the summer. The obligation is contingent on the Serie A side qualifying for next season’s Champions League.
