Speaking in the latest episode of the Official Man City Podcast - available on mancity.com and our official app from 17:00 (UK) today - Miedema covered her career in detail and gave a detailed insight into the life of footballing superstar away from the pitch.

Having first moved away from home to join Bayern Munich as a 17-year-old, Miedema arrived in England to play for Arsenal at the age of 21.

She spent seven years in north London, becoming the record scorer in Barclays Women’s Super League history before joining City in the summer of 2024.

Despite being highly experienced at the very highest level by that point, Miedema says it still took her some time to get used to the move.

However, in conversation with podcast host George Kelsey and former City forward Toni Duggan, she confirmed she’s loving life in the north west now.

“The move from London to Manchester was still tough,” said our No.10.

“You get into a routine and feel at home in a certain place and then you need to pack up everything and move.

“In the beginning in Manchester, I struggled quite a bit because I got injured straight away and I thought ‘I’m not sure if I can do this and still want to do this at my age’.

“This season, I think everyone can see I feel like a completely different person and player and I have my space here now which is really nice. I’m smiling these days, it’s worrying!

“Manchester is small, which I love! I can walk from one side of town to the other. People are friendlier up north and I love that I can go into the Peak District and Lake District from here.”

Miedema’s first league game at City saw her return to former club Arsenal at the start of the 2024/25 season.

“I was a bit nervous for the game, I would say. It was my first time coming back, straight away at the Emirates,” she remembered.

“I wouldn’t say I left on the best terms in the end, but so much respect for the girls and I knew they were going to love me regardless.

“The reception I got from the fans was fantastic. I always loved playing for Arsenal and I feel the same pride right now wearing the City shirt.

“I love being part of this project and I love how we’ve started this season. I’ve been so fortunate to play for massive clubs in my career.”

Miedema has been integral to City’s excellent form so far in 2025/26, with the Blues currently sitting top of the WSL having won all but one of our nine outings.

Her relationship with Khadija ‘Bunny’ Shaw in the final third has gone from strength to strength, with Miedema deeper and tasked with providing more opportunities for the prolific Jamaican.

Having spent much of her own career as the leading scorer in her team, it’s a switch up that Miedema is relishing at City.

“In my head, I’m not an out and out No.9. I leave games happier when I’m involved a lot rather than scoring a couple of goals,” she said.

“As I’ve got older in my career and more experienced, I don’t think I’m as stuck on just having to score goals. I can contribute so much more to the game.

“I need to adapt my game to what others need around me and I’m loving playing that role right now.”
