Monza this evening, and then Man City and AC Milan – this is the start of Inter Milan’s first real “week of fire” of the season.
This is highlighted in today’s print edition of Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, via FCInterNews.
As always, the start of the season has been relatively slow for Inter.
In the August heat, the Nerazzurri played a total of just three matches in August, all a week apart.
Inter drew away to Genoa in their Serie A opener. Convincing wins over the likes of Lecce and Atalanta followed.
Then, there was the first international break of the season.
The first break always gives the initial handful of matches of the campaign a feeling of a bit of a false start. Inter have now not played a match in sixteen days.
But now that the Nerazzurri are back in action, things are really about to start to pick up.
This evening, Inter are in Monza.
The Nerazzurri take on Lombard rivals the Brianzoli in their fourth Serie A match of the season.
Inter take momentum into this evening’s match, even if the international break has disrupted that somewhat.
However, Inter will know full well that they cannot take any result for granted from this evening’s match.
The Nerazzurri may have beaten Monza both home and away last season. But in the previous campaign, the Brianzoli had drawn with and then beaten them.
Therefore, this evening’s match is an early test of Inter’s mental strength, fitness, and tactical coherency.
And it won’t be the last.
In just three days time Inter will be in Manchester. They will kick off their Champions League campaign with their toughest match of the “league phase” on paper away to Manchester City.
This rematch of the 2023 final will certainly be a sterner test than facing Monza, with all due respect to the Serie A side.
And then one week from today, another huge match for Inter.
The Nerazzurri will face city rivals AC Milan in the first derby match of the season.
The Rossoneri have found their feet after a tough start to the season, demolishing Venezia 4-0 yesterday.
So Inter will be facing a big test in their quest to retain the Serie A title. On top of the derby always being one of the most important matches in the Italian football calendar.
