Nigel Lonwijk has left Wolves to join Maccabi Haifa on a permanent deal, ending a six-and-a-half-year stay. The 23-year-old defender joins the Israeli Premier League side.
According to ExpressAndStar.com, the fee is £500,000 and Wolves retain a 25 per cent sell-on clause.
He arrived from PSV Eindhoven in January 2020, first featuring for the under-18s before stepping up through the academy. He did not make a senior appearance and had six loan spells away.
He trained with the first team in several pre-seasons, including this summer’s trip to Portugal, but was not involved in the mid-week friendly win at Maidenhead.
Technical director Matt Jackson described the move as a positive step after a clear development pathway at the club. He noted Lonwijk’s extensive game time on loan and that he joined as a very young player under different academy rules that allowed the recruitment of young overseas talent.
With a year remaining on his contract, Jackson said a permanent switch suited all parties, providing immediate income and future interest. He praised Lonwijk’s professionalism and example to younger players, highlighted his young family, and wished him well.
