Norwich City are reportedly keen to sign Lewis Koumas on loan
Norwich City are the latest side linked with a move for Liverpool forward Lewis Koumas this summer.
Sheffield United have been reported to hold an interest in the 19-year-old, who spent last season on loan with Stoke City.
Koumas netted six times and provided three assists in 49 appearances during his time with the Potters.
Norwich are looking to add Koumas to their attack this summer as they aim to fight towards the sharp end of the Championship next term.
According to the Pink Un, the Liverpool youngster is one of a number of options being considered by the Canaries this window.
Liam Manning is expected to add two wide men to his squad over the next couple of months, with last season’s top scorer Borja Sainz still likely to exit Carrow Road.
The teenager’s first taste of Championship football proved that he was ready to compete at that level and has naturally brought forward the attention of multiple parties this summer.
Koumas showed inconsistency at points last term, but that is to be expected given his tender age and would no doubt operate at a higher level now possessing that experience.
Norwich have enjoyed taking loan players from Premier League outfits in recent times, with Lewis Dobbin and Kaide Gordon shining examples.
Koumas signed a long-term contract at Anfield before joining Stoke last summer, with the Reds clearly holding the winger in high regard.
Although Sheffield United are likely to have more of a chance of achieving promotion next season, moving to Carrow Road could present Koumas with a better opportunity for career progression.
The Blades currently have a much stronger frontline in comparison to Norwich and Koumas would potentially have to settle for a more rotational role, which isn’t what he needs at this crucial stage of his development.
Therefore, joining Norwich and working under a coach renowned for his ability to get the best out of young players in the form of Manning could be exactly what helps take Koumas to the next level.
There is every chance that with a few extra additions and a new face in the dugout, Norwich could be back fighting for promotion once more next term and would subsequently quell any worries the 19-year-old has over the side’s competitiveness.
Time will tell where Koumas decides to play his football next season, but the Canaries may already enjoy a slight advantage in the race for his services.
