We’re all waiting for the big transfer news of the day to drop – will Nicolas Jackson get his move to Bayern Munich? Will Chelsea replace him? Will Axel Disasi get a move? Will either of Raheem Sterling or Ben Chilwell’s mega-wages get shifted?
That’s the exciting stuff, but there’s plenty of smaller admin to tidy up too.
Alex Matos struts his stuff in PL2 action.
Alex Matos, for example, has just completed a move to Sheffield United. The midfielder said that he was happy to go, after two loans in the Championship prepared him for the level:
“The loans developed me quite a lot, it is a good league, as has growing up at Chelsea, but I’m very happy to be here now, getting players in recently shows how big a club this is, and it looks like a strong team. Exciting times ahead.”
Matos signed for Chelsea two years ago as a youngster from Norwich. There were high hopes for him, both as a player and as a potential profit maker, given he was signed on a free. He made his debut in the October of that year as a sub for Enzo Fernandez against Fulham, but hasn’t been seen since.
His loan in the second half of his first season to Huddersfield went well (despite their relegation) and we expected him to build from that. However, as it turned out he didn’t get a loan last summer (we don’t know why) and ended up stuck at Cobham until January, when he went to Oxford United on loan.
That rather killed his momentum, but clearly Championship teams have been watching, and Sheffield United now pick him up on a 3 year deal for an undisclosed (but likely very small) fee.
Well, it was worth a punt. Good luck Alex!
