It is now official. Joan Laporta has been re-elected as FC Barcelona president after winning the club’s presidential election with a commanding majority.
Barcelona confirmed that Laporta received 32,934 votes, which amounted to 68.18% of the total. Victor Font finished second with 14,385 votes, while 984 ballots were left blank.
The result means Laporta will continue leading the club into another five-year cycle, extending his stay at the helm during one of the most politically charged periods in recent Barcelona history. The official announcement marks the start of what will be his fourth spell as president, with the new term formally set to begin on July 1, 2026.
There had been no shortage of tension heading into the vote. Laporta and Font exchanged several blows throughout the campaign, with debates focusing on everything from the sporting project and transfer policy to ticket pricing and the general direction of the club. In the end, however, the final margin left little room for doubt about who had the backing of the majority.
The turnout was also notable, with 48,480 members casting their ballots out of more than 114,000 eligible voters, underlining the importance of the election for the club’s future. However, the club may have hoped for an even bigger turnout than this.
For Joan Laporta, the challenge now is clear. Re-election brings validation, but it also brings renewed pressure. With the Spotify Camp Nou project still central to Barcelona’s future and expectations high around Hansi Flick’s team, the president now enters a new mandate in which promises will quickly need to become action.
As for Victor Font, he simply didn’t have the same kind of support that Laporta did this time around. It’s time for him to re-evaluate his election campaign tactics and prepare for the future, hopefully the next presidential elections.
