Pablo Hernández has turned SkyFi Castalia into a fortress, with CD Castellón on six successive home wins and closing in on a landmark. Victory against Andorra on Sunday at 18.30 would match the seven-game surge achieved in the club’s last promotion campaign.
El Periódico Mediterráneo highlights that home form was decisive in 1989. Under Luiche, Castellón won seven straight at Castalia, then drew 0-0 with Mallorca before a 0-0 in Burgos confirmed promotion.
The club’s best home sequence in a promotion season belongs to Lucien Muller’s side, who opened 1971-72 with 12 straight league wins at the old Castalia. The run ended with a draw against Ferrol. They went up, then finished fifth in La Liga and were Copa runners-up the following year.
Hernández’s current return also matches Teodoro Mauri’s top home run from 1940-41, the first promotion campaign. In 1981, under Benito Joanet, the best home streak was three wins.
In the 21st century, this is already the club’s strongest Second Division home run. Previously the benchmark was three in a row, managed by Pepe Moré, Pepe Murcia and Johan Plat.
As Castellón boss at SkyFi Castalia, Hernández has overseen eight home games. They started with a 3-1 win over Sporting, then lost 0-1 to Albacete, and since then have beaten Málaga, Real Sociedad B, Las Palmas, Mirandés, Huesca and Leganés by 2-1, 5-4, 1-0, 3-1, 4-1 and 2-0.
