Palmeiras train after derby win, eye Brasileirão opener v Atlético-MG

Palmeiras returned to training on the morning of this Monday (26th), at the Football Academy, after defeating São Paulo 3-1 last Saturday (24th) at the Arena Crefisa Barueri, for the Campeonato Paulista. Verdão’s goals in the derby were scored by Mauricio, Flaco López, and Khellven. Now, the team in green shifts its focus to the debut in the Campeonato Brasileiro, against Atlético-MG, this Wednesday (28th), at 7 p.m., at Arena MRV, in Belo Horizonte (MG).

The day’s activities began with physical activation at the Center of Excellence. Afterwards, the players went to the field for technical and tactical drills, focusing on movement, marking, build-up play, ball distribution, crosses, and finishing. The athletes who started as regulars in the derby left the field earlier and performed regenerative work inside the training center. The rest of the squad participated in technical activities in smaller spaces.

Lucas Evangelista and Figueiredo continued their physical transition process on the pitch, while Paulinho underwent treatment with the Health and Performance Center.

Scorer of one of the goals in the win over São Paulo, right-back Khellven celebrated his first goal wearing the Palmeiras shirt.

The feeling is one of great happiness, I felt very honored to score my first goal in this shirt, especially in a derby, in such an important match. I’m very happy, only my family and I know how much we work for these moments. I think the win in the derby will be very important for us to gain confidence, to improve our performance, and to keep achieving our goals.

The player also analyzed his moment with the team and recalled the difficulties faced since arriving at the club.

When I arrived, I had a good run of games and then there was the match against River Plate-ARG, where I ended up breaking my finger and that set me back a bit. Now I believe that starting pre-season with my teammates, even though it was very short, will be very important for me. I think it will be a very successful season and, God willing, we’ll go after titles.

Khellven also highlighted the squad’s attitude in facing challenges throughout the season.

In football, you have to prove yourself every day. Sometimes we lose a match and the next day we’re already super motivated to train well, improve on the things we didn’t do so well, and get better for the next game. Our team is very resilient, we push ourselves a lot in that regard. And that’s it, keep working, stay focused, try to improve each one in their own way, and always seek the best for Palmeiras. Now we’re going to face Atlético-MG in the Brasileiro and we’re going after the three points.
