Prosecutor calls press conference on Corinthians investigation

On the morning of this Wednesday (15), Justice Prosecutor Cássio Conserino will hold a press conference at the Barra Funda Criminal Court at 11 am (Brasília time) to clarify the next steps of the investigation into irregularities committed during the administrations of Andrés Sanchez, Duilio Monteiro Alves, and Augusto Melo, between 2018 and 2025.

The interview will take place in the auditorium of the São Paulo Public Prosecutor's Office and will feature the presence of the Central do Timão, which will broadcast live from the location, with images, on YouTube. Click HERE to access Central do Timão TV.

The Criminal Investigation Procedure (PIC) was initiated by the Public Prosecutor's Office in mid-July of this year. At the time, the MP-SP also scheduled hearings with the current president of Corinthians, Osmar Stabile, vice-president Armando Mendonça, and the president of the Deliberative Council, Romeu Tuma Júnior, aiming to understand in detail the functioning of the club's corporate cards.

In July, after the leak of statements on social media, former president Andrés Sanchez admitted to using Corinthians' corporate card to cover personal expenses at the end of his term in 2020, claiming to have reimbursed it later.

Regarding Duilio Monteiro Alves, a report from the portal ge.globo indicated that the club also covered personal expenses during his administration, in addition to pointing out evidence of irregular invoices and possible links with shell companies.

Initially, the MP's investigation was restricted to the administrations of Andrés (2018–2020) and Duilio (2021–2023). However, after collecting testimonies, the body decided to extend the investigation to include the term of Augusto Melo, who was removed from the presidency in August by decision of a General Assembly of Members. The former leader is also involved in the so-called "VaideBet case," which led to his removal from office.

In addition to the suspicion of embezzlement, the investigation also covers possible crimes of money laundering and falsification of tax documents. The press conference called by the Public Prosecutor's Office is expected to present details on the progress of the investigations and point out the possible legal measures that may be adopted from this stage.
