Of course, today’s big breaking story is one that Ibrox Noise certainly did not see coming. We are sure most Rangers fans did not either. At the moment, Danny Rohl has a lot of credit in the bank with Rangers fans. That includes being an improvement over Russell Martin. We have, of course, discussed why this whole thing is a little bit of an illusion. Rangers are still in second place. Nevertheless, no one can deny we are on a good run at the moment.
This is why our German coach has a lot of faith among fans. Many believe he is the right man. However, that faith may just be tested to some nth degree. The current £2.5M or £3M bid is for German striker Ryan Naderi. We can safely say we have never heard of this guy. We are also pretty sure one hundred percent of the Rangers support had not either.
He plays in the German third division with Hansa Rostock. His stats at that level are reasonably decent. However, so are Theo Hascard’s in League One. This is a very curious decision. The German third division is probably between the National League and League Two in England. It is not a marquee division. It is a lot of money for a 22 year old striker. His stats are decent at that level. He has never experienced anything like Rangers before.
There are, of course, many caveats. He is a big guy. That is something Rangers do need. He is only 22. While not 17, he is not old either. However, it is a fair chunk of cash. This would be for a literal low league nobody.
Ibrox Noise has made many jokes in the past. We often use a metaphor. We refer to the Afghan third division as a market Rangers appear to enter. In fairness, that was our reaction to Hamza Igamane from the Moroccan league. That one turned out not too bad. He was not sensational in Scotland. However, we got £12M out of it. He is shining in France.
It shows there is talent even in lower leagues. This is the scouts’ job. They must find talent like this. They must bring them in. It is all about finding untapped gems. We are very happy with our January business so far. Andreas Skov Olsen arrived. So did Tuur Rommens. Of course, there was Tachi Chukwunari. We were happy with these three. They were solid and decent quality additions.
There has not been a really big chunk of cash spent yet. We must say Naderi is much more of a risk. This is a lower league German player. He is not used to Ibrox pressures. He is not used to must win teams. He is a young striker. Danny Rohl is staking a real risk on him. It is a very curious choice.
We know good strikers do not grow on trees. We know they are expensive. We hope this is an untapped gem. We hope Naderi can be a high scorer. The Scottish division is demanding and strong. This would be a big risk. It is a lot of money. It is for a very low level player.
Many fans will say, in Danny we trust. Ibrox Noise does not share that trust. We will not for some time. All we can say is this. If we sign the German equivalent of Joe Garner, he must step up. He must prove himself. Garner now plays in the lower leagues of England. He does not score many. This kid does score. However, German lower league football is lower than England’s.
The German third division is around National League to League Two level. It is not strong. That said, we may be proven cynical sods. Mr Naderi may turn out superb. He may bang them in no bother. Time will tell. It is a big risk. We hope it pays off for Danny Rohl and Rangers.
