PSG finally lifted the UEFA Champions League trophy after Kylian Mbappé’s departure, capping off a remarkable season in which they also secured the treble with the 2018 FIFA World Cup winner in their squad. Still, a recent report suggests Mbappé had an unusual reaction to seeing his former club conquer Europe without him.

It wasn’t smooth sailing early on, with PSG struggling through the league phase and barely clawing their way into the knockouts. But once 2025 arrived, the team hit another gear — knocking off Manchester City in the league stage before powering past a string of Premier League opponents on their march to the title.

Liverpool, Aston Villa, and Arsenal all fell to the Parisians, who then dismantled Inter Milan in the final. Now, as Mbappé spends the international break with the France national team, his focus remains clear: chasing a first Champions League title of his own after watching his ex-teammates achieve what long eluded him.

On Sunday, while speaking with the media, Mbappé shared what he truly felt seeing his former club and teammates win the Champions League the season after he left.

“I was happy because I had quite a few friends on the team,” Mbappé told M6. “It’s a club that has meant a lot to me. It’s the one where I’ve stayed the longest so far in my career.

“It’s special for the people of Paris, for the fans. It was the logical next step: we were close in the previous years, and they succeeded. Paris Saint-Germain is going to enter another dimension.”

PSG and Real Madrid won’t meet on the group stage, but both clubs could meet on the knockout stage, setting up an interesting tie. The Parisians eliminated Real Madrid in the FIFA Club World Cup, but having Mbappé return to the Parc des Princes would make for a fantastic storyline.
