Real Sociedad have carried out a historic clear-out at Zubieta, announcing the departure of 16 players from Real Sociedad C, their second reserve side. The club said in a statement that it thanked them for their commitment and wished them well.
The players leaving are Harriet Goñi, Domenic Torres, Jokin Zeziaga, Alex Fernandorena, Markel Peral, Zac Shuaib, Patxi Aizpurua, Javi Jiménez, Alejo Corengia, Anartz Segurola, Jon Yeabsera Landa, Liam Baro, Aritz Amenabar, Oihan Froilan, Adrián Zango and Unai Alfageme.
Real Sociedad C compete in Tercera RFEF and have stalled since relegation from Segunda RFEF two seasons ago after four straight years there. They failed to win promotion last term against ostensibly weaker, lower budget rivals, prompting a reset.
Among the notable exits are Zac Shuaib and Markel Peral. Shuaib joined from Arsenal last summer and departs after not meeting expectations. Peral, from Andoain, spent loans at Pasaia and Beasain, won promotion to Segunda RFEF with Beasain, and will play next season at Sestao River.
The 16 departures leave the squad almost bare, triggering a major internal reshuffle that will benefit lower age groups. Promotions of the best Real C talents to Sanse will accelerate their pathway.
The next Real C project will be heavily stocked by players from the División de Honor Juvenil, and it might also draw from other academy teams. The board accept the risk of tackling Tercera RFEF with an extremely young, inexperienced group, aiming to revive a project they believe belongs in Segunda Federación.
