Real Sociedad opt out of Pau Gasol Liga F investment deal

Real Sociedad have opted out of Pau Gasol’s Liga F investment via Gasol16 Ventures, so will receive no money from the 55 million euro package. The plan passed with a majority of the 16 clubs, with Real among four dissenters.

According to Diario Vasco, Real also declined to sign up after the vote, mirroring Real Madrid, and therefore will take none of the 40 million earmarked for participating clubs. Liga F will receive 12 million, and a further 3 million is allocated to image rights for some players. Real Madrid argued the plan does not fit a growth model based on sustainability, transparency and full club autonomy, and outlined that the fund would take between 35% and 49% of future commercial revenues until June 2051, with signatory clubs foregoing a share for 25 years.

The San Sebastián club’s stance contrasts with its support for LaLiga Impulso in the men’s game five years ago, when CVC invested about 2 billion euros for club projects.

League president Beatriz Álvarez has characterised the assembly as a private forum and underlined that the initiative passed with a reinforced majority. A sign-up period is open, clubs will decide what is best and there is hope all 16 join, with the plan presented as a lever for growth.

Gasol has framed the investment as timely after growth abroad, pointing to significant potential and to the league’s leading players and clubs as reasons to push Liga F forward.
