There is something faintly mischievous about Tottenham casting an admiring glance at a player who had so recently caused them pain. According to reporting by the Daily Mail, Spurs are among the clubs to have considered a move for West Ham winger Crysencio Summerville, only days after he opened the scoring in a 2-1 win for Nuno Espirito Santo’s side in North London.

Summerville, signed by West Ham United from Leeds United for £25million in summer 2024, offered a sharp reminder of his qualities at the weekend. Extreme pace, technical trickery, and a willingness to attack defenders head on remain his calling cards, traits Tottenham increasingly lack on the left of their front line.
With Son Heung-min’s exit to the United States, Thomas Frank is exploring solutions for what has become a problem position. The left side has felt curiously underpowered, and Summerville’s profile fits a need that is as much about personality as output. His willingness to take responsibility stands out in a Spurs side often accused of playing within itself.

There is also a knock-on effect elsewhere in the squad. If Tottenham can resolve that role, they would have scope to grant Mathys Tel his wish to leave on loan.
Tel joined Spurs on loan from Bayern Munich last January, made the move permanent in the summer, and now finds himself restless after being dropped from the UEFA Champions League squad for the second time this season. Interest from Paris FC appeals to the 20-year-old as he looks to make a late push for France selection in a World Cup year.

At 24, the former Dutch Under 21 international is approaching his peak. He joined Leeds from Feyenoord in 2020 and was prolific in 2023-24, scoring 19 goals with nine assists to claim the EFL Championship Player of the Season. His West Ham season has flickered, though goals in each of his last two appearances hint at momentum. Nuno is not keen to lose him as relegation pressure mounts, but Tottenham’s interest underlines how quickly perceptions can shift.
Watching Summerville score against Tottenham only sharpened the sense that this is exactly the sort of winger the squad lacks. Direct, fearless, and comfortable taking risks, he offers something different to the more cautious profiles Spurs have relied upon since Son’s departure.
There is sympathy for Tel too. Many fans expected more immediate impact after his permanent move, but confidence drains quickly when Champions League squads come and go without your name. A loan could benefit all parties, yet supporters would want reassurance that any incoming winger is genuinely an upgrade rather than another short-term patch.
The bigger picture matters most. Spurs fans crave clarity in recruitment, players who fit a recognisable attacking idea rather than opportunistic additions. Summerville, despite the irony of his recent goal, feels like a football decision rather than a reactive one. If Tottenham are serious about reasserting their identity, embracing a player who thrives on confrontation might be a step in the right direction.
