Ruben Amorim vows to “give everything” amid mounting pressure at Manchester United | OneFootball

Rúben Amorim has insisted he is “suffering more than” Manchester United supporters as pressure mounts on his position following a 3-0 derby defeat to Manchester City at the Etihad.

Goals from Phil Foden and a brace from Erling Haaland consigned United to a humbling loss in the 197th Manchester derby, leaving Amorim’s side with just four points from their opening four league fixtures. It is United’s poorest start to a top-flight campaign since 1992-93, and the Portuguese coach’s record of 31 points from his first 31 Premier League games paints a stark picture.

“I am going to give everything,” Amorim told the media, as reported by The Athletic. “I will always do what I think is best for the club. Until I am here, I will give my all. I really want to win games — I am suffering more than the supporters.”

The 39-year-old, who replaced Erik ten Hag last season, has faced criticism for his rigid commitment to a 3-4-2-1 system, which has seen captain Bruno Fernandes deployed out of position. Yet Amorim has doubled down, insisting that only the club’s hierarchy can enforce a tactical shift by removing him. “If I want to change, I will change. If not, you have to change the man,” he said.

Despite a dismal return of one win from four games, Amorim argued that progress is being made compared with last season, when United stumbled to a 15th-place finish. Still, he acknowledged that such form is unacceptable for a club of United’s stature.

United host Chelsea at Old Trafford on Saturday in what already feels like a defining contest for Amorim’s tenure. Another defeat would leave the calls for change echoing louder than ever.
