Nottingham Forest have dismissed Sean Dyche after only 114 days at the helm, bringing a swift end to one of the Premier League’s shortest managerial tenures this season. The decision arrived in the early hours of Thursday morning, confirmation landing at 12.30am, roughly three hours after a goalless draw with Wolves, the division’s bottom club, deepened concern around the City Ground.
Dyche’s departure continues a season of upheaval for Nottingham Forest, who have now moved on from three head coaches in a single campaign, following earlier changes involving Nuno Espirito Santo and Ange Postecoglou. Instability has become an unwanted theme, with results failing to steady the club’s direction.

Form ultimately dictated the outcome. Nottingham Forest entered the Wolves fixture amid a three match winless sequence in the Premier League. Draws against Crystal Palace and Wolves framed a damaging 3-1 defeat to relegation rivals Leeds United, a result that amplified pressure both externally and within the club hierarchy.
That run left Forest hovering just three points above the relegation zone, an uncomfortable margin with 12 matches still to play. Survival remains within reach, yet the trajectory had begun to tilt the wrong way, prompting decisive action from the board.
Dyche, long associated with organisational discipline and defensive structure, had been appointed to deliver resilience during a precarious period. Results, however, did not gather sufficient momentum to convince decision makers that the trajectory would shift in time.
Managerial changes often carry an air of long term planning, but this move felt rooted in urgency. Nottingham Forest’s league position, combined with the psychological weight of a relegation battle, left little room for patience.
Dyche exits with the club still outside the bottom three, yet the margin for error has narrowed. With fixtures dwindling, Forest’s leadership clearly believe a new voice can provoke the response required to secure Premier League status.
Frequent managerial turnover can fracture continuity, particularly mid season, but it can also serve as a catalyst. Forest now gamble on the latter.
Forest confirmed the news in a brief official release:
“Nottingham Forest Football Club can confirm that Sean Dyche has been relieved of his duties as head coach.
We would like to thank Sean and his staff for their efforts during their time at the Club and we wish them the best of luck for the future. We will be making no further comment at this time.”
No elaboration, no interim details, simply acknowledgement and closure.
Attention now turns to what comes next for Nottingham Forest. With 12 games remaining, every appointment carries heightened consequence. The squad’s response, both tactically and emotionally, will shape the closing chapter of their season.
Sean Dyche’s tenure may have been brief, but its significance lies in what follows. Forest’s survival hopes now rest on whether this latest change can generate the lift their campaign so urgently requires.
