Sevenius surprised by superb support

While United left the Gateshead International Stadium with just a point last Sunday, Sevenius, who joined from FC Rosengard in the summer, still has fond memories of what went on off the pitch and in the stands.

Those moments off the pitch, coupled with some exploring of Newcastle and the North East, mean Sevenius already feels like Newcastle is 'home' for her.

"I think we have the coolest fans - I feel like we have that pressure to win games and show that we deserve their support," she explained.

"It was important we got a point on Sunday because it's a long season and we have high standards. But the fans, wow, their support and the feeling inside the ground was a very special one.

"The way our fans sing during the game and keep the noise going for a whole match is something new for me. I've played in games before where fans are watching, but it's not felt alive.

"I think that kind of support has surprised me a little bit, as well as how quickly the fans have taken to me; it does make it feel like home."

Having played across Europe in places like Milan, Como and Malmo, Sevenius was, naturally, rather sceptical of the North East weather upon her move to Newcastle.

But now, almost a month after joining the club, United's own Euro 2025 goalscorer has been left pleasantly surprised with what the area has to offer, especially following a warm summer.

"It actually hasn't even rained that much, which I wasn't expecting," Sevenius told newcastleunited.com. "Although even when it's sunny, I've learnt that it can start raining very quickly.

"I've already seen the beaches and walked near the river, seeing all of the bridges. I love exploring, so I'm glad to have done so much already.

"We've got a really nice squad, which makes going out for coffees and nice food really easy outside of training."

Despite the positives away from the pitch, Sevenius had a stern look in her eye when talking about Newcastle's upcoming match against Birmingham, with the Lasses taking all three points in the same fixture last season.

The 21-year-old is aware of the expectations United have of themselves, and following last week's stalemate at home she insisted that the squad are more determined than ever to get another win on the road.

"I think we are even hungrier now (to pick up three points)," she said. "I think everyone knows we didn't perform to the level that we should have last week.

"We know that (Birmingham) are very good, but I think we'll be very strong and I'm just very excited for the game."
