Khadija ‘Bunny’ Shaw says big matches like our showdown with Chelsea are the best place for City to showcase how far we’ve come as a group.

We welcome the reigning Barclays Women’s Super League champions to the Etihad Stadium on Sunday 1 February at 14:30 (UK).

It’s a battle between the WSL’s top two, with City holding a nine-point advantage on our rivals after Shaw’s late goal secured a 2-1 win at London City Lionesses last time out.

The Jamaican is under no illusions that we’ll need to be at our best to pick up another important win, but that the tie provides the perfect platform for the Blues to perform on.

“Football is about challenge,” the WSL’s leading scorer began.

“You want to feel comfortable being uncomfortable in order for you to get better and that’s something that I’ve always tried to do.

“I think coming up against some of the best players, it’s what you want because if you can show your talent that way.

“It’s the best way to show it, so it will be a challenge but it’s definitely one I’m looking forward to.”

City’s win against London City Lionesses was our 12th in a row in the WSL, a run stretching back to our first home match of the season against Brighton.

The Blues boast the best attacking record in the division, averaging just under three goals per game and have scored ten times in the final 15 minutes of matches – another league high.

Those exploits saw Jeglertz make history as the first manager to win three successive WSL Manager of the Month awards between October and December.

Shaw says the Swede is allowing his squad to play with freedom, and the results are there to see.

She added: “The fluidity has been good, there’s a lot of freedom and I think the players that we have thrive off freedom.

“So, I think he gives us the opportunity to go and play and express ourselves in the best way possible. Obviously, each individual is different, and I think you’re seeing that on the pitch.

“Like I said, it’s been good. His style of play works with the players that we have, including myself.

“I just go out in every game, wanting to help the team feel good and enjoy my football, and I think I’ve been doing it.”
