Sheffield Wednesday are currently unable to register free agents to their first team squad
Sheffield Wednesday are keeping tabs on ex-Man United defender Timothy Fosu-Mensah and ex-Cardiff City player Andy Rinomhota as possible free agent signings.
According to The Star, it’s unlikely any deals will be made between now and the team’s next game against bitter rivals Sheffield United in under two weeks.
The Owls are currently unable to register any new players to their first team squad due to restrictions placed on them by the EFL.
Financial issues have plagued the Yorkshire outfit throughout 2025, which has seen a number of key players depart Hillsborough without any significant replacements brought in.
Sheffield Wednesday were placed in administration at the end of October, with a new owner being sought to take over from Dejphon Chansiri.

Sheffield Wednesday are keeping tabs on a number of free agent players, including both Fosu-Mensah and Rinomhota.
A number of potential targets have reportedly been drawn up by Henrik Pedersen in a bid to improve the first team, with the club looking to be prepared for when any green light arrives to complete signings.
Liam Cooper is also believed to be targeted, but the Owls are still awaiting approval from the EFL to bring in free agents.
However, it’s understood that the squad will be the same for their upcoming clash against Sheffield United following the international break.
It was claimed by journalist Joe Crann that the Championship side have yet to get approval from the EFL, with no decision likely.
Registration embargoes have led to Sheffield Wednesday adding just two players to the first team squad since the end of last season.
Ethan Horvath and Harry Amass arrived on loan for the season during the summer, while an emergency deal saw Joe Lumley temporarily join the squad for a short couple of weeks.
The Owls are bottom of the Championship table, and will be seeking a first win in 10 games when they face Sheffield United on 23 November.

Sheffield Wednesday have a very small and inexperienced squad, so being able to bring in anyone between now and 1 January would be helpful.
It’s hard to imagine anyone transforming their season, with relegation all but certain at this stage, but easing the burden on key players to be available for every minute would still be massively important.
Fosu-Mensah would bring a lot of experience to Pedersen’s side following his exit from Bayer Leverkusen, while Rinomhota and Cooper would also be smart additions.
