Wednesday have been up for sale since late October, when former chief Dejphon Chansiri was forced to place them into administration due to being unable to satisfy a £1m HMRC bill.

Although the Owls were hit with an automatic 12-point deduction, which has since been increased to 18 and all but confirms their relegation to League One, as many as 80 parties showed an interest in buying them.

With the process nearing ever closer to completion, Football League World has rounded up the latest news surrounding Sheffield Wednesday's takeover.

New bidders could come to the table

It appeared as if Wednesday's takeover process was nearing a conclusion, but now the race could be wide open once more.

As per the Sheffield Star, some bidders were reportedly put off by the hype surrounding the takeover process, as well as the £30m fee that was being quoted to purchase the Owls.

After it became apparent that Mike Ashley's bid for Sheffied Wednesday was below that amount, with a willingness to accept a fifteen-point deduction next term, multiple other parties could reignite their interest in buying the Steel City side.

This means that the process may have a little further to go, even when it looked like a purchase was nearly ready to be completed.

Storch family make fresh bid

The Storch family have emerged as a party interested in a takeover during the past few weeks, months after sounding out a purchase of League One side Plymouth Argyle.

It was revealed that they had teamed up with US billionaire John McEvoy as part of a combined bid, which put them in a strong position to battle Ashley.

However, McEvoy has since dropped out of the process, which has required the Storch family to find more backing elsewhere before making another bid.

Reports suggest that they have managed this and firmly remain in the picture to become Sheffield Wednesday's next owners.

James Bord drops out of the process

After as many as 80 parties showed an interest in purchasing Sheffield Wednesday, that list was whittled down until just three remained.

This trio included Ashley, the Storch/McEvoy duo and James Bord.

Bord is an ex-professional poker player who now runs a data analytics firm that uses AI to help advise organisations on decisions. Sheffield United have utilised Bord's services in the past, but that didn't deter him from pursuing a takeover.

It has been revealed that although the former gambling expert made the highest offer for Wednesday, in excess of £35m, concerns over his funding and satisfying the demands of the EFL’s Owners and Directors Test has ruled them out of the running.
