Simeone ‘has pre-agreement’ with Inter, Filipe Luís could be Atlético option | OneFootball

Diego Simeone’s long spell at Atlético de Madrid could be nearing its end, with the coach said to have a pre-agreement with Inter Milan. According to Coluna Do Fla, Filipe Luís would be the leading candidate to replace him if he departs.

Simeone has been in charge for 15 years and previously managed Filipe Luís until 2019, when the left-back joined Flamengo. The current Flamengo coach has long spoken of a desire to work in Europe and win the Champions League, a title he did not secure as a player.

During his last two holidays, Filipe Luís visited Atlético’s training ground to see former team-mates and greet Simeone. His Flamengo contract runs until December 2027 after a recent renewal.

Inter are currently led by Cristian Chivu, who is under pressure after a shock UEFA Champions League exit to Bodø/Glimt on Tuesday 24. The Italians lost 3-1 in Norway and 2-1 in Italy.

Filipe Luís cannot yet take charge in Europe, holding only A and B licences while he completes the CBF Academy PRO. UEFA also requires a period of experience before he can work on the continent.

With Atlético yet to confirm any change, Filipe Luís remains focused on Flamengo’s Recopa Sudamericana decider against Lanús on Thursday 26 at the Maracanã. Kick-off is 21:30 Brasília time.
