Gian Piero Gasperini’s Roma left the Allianz Stadium with a 2-1 defeat that, paradoxically, once again confirmed their tactical identity.
Despite the adverse result, the Giallorossi imposed their style of play for large stretches of the game, forcing Juventus to play a game of sacrifice, as Luciano Spalletti himself admitted with great honesty in his post-match press conference.
The Juventus coach praised Roma’s impact on the match: “They have a pace that crushes and crushes you. They surround you with their third and fifth defenders, creating numerical superiority and digging out the extra man.”
In the first half, Roma performed better in terms of possession, preventing any counterattacks thanks to suffocating pressure.
“Roma’s pressure makes you lose your composure, it leaves you breathless,” Spalletti explained to Sky Sport. “Against them, the game becomes a series of eleven individual duels: they lock you in a prison, and if you don’t know how to free yourself, you won’t find any way out.”
Despite controlling the game early on and an organization that Spalletti described as “inspiring,” Roma lacked the ability to convert their offensive output into concrete opportunities. Juventus resisted with sacrifice and managed to strike with cynicism when they had the chance.
