Paxton is a product of the Sunderland academy system. She represented the club at Professional Game Academy League level before breaking into the first team. The youngster has featured in Sunderland’s last two matches in Barclays WSL2.

The defender has a big future ahead in the game and Sunderland have moved to retain her services on a professional basis.

After signing her first professional contract on Wearside, Paxton said “I’m over the moon – it’s a really proud moment for me and my family. It’s an opportunity I’ve waited for a long time, and I couldn’t have asked for a better way to make my debut. It does take a lot of sacrifice, but those sacrifices are definitely worth it for moments like this.”

Paxton will be hoping to continue to impress Sunderland boss Melanie Reay should she be selected to feature in the club’s final two games of the season against Crystal Palace and Ipswich Town.
