Sunderland’s squad market value has risen sharply in their first season back in the Premier League, standing at €381.95m, 16th in the division. According to Sunderland Echo, the upswing comes alongside fresh off-field investment.

Club chiefs confirmed a multi-million pound programme for the Stadium of Light and the Academy of Light. A new LED perimeter advertising system will be installed and corporate hospitality will be expanded and upgraded.

Pitch works at the Academy are scheduled for the summer, with youth teams set to benefit from new technologies to aid preparation, performance and recovery. The Black Cats House offices will also be refurbished, after the recent expansion of safe-standing areas at the Stadium of Light.

Progress off the pitch follows last season’s promotion via the Championship play-off final win against Sheffield United, then an ambitious summer window that underpinned an impressive top-flight return. There is clear excitement on Wearside as Regis Le Bris and his squad enter the final fortnight. European football remains a long shot.

Across the league, the highest-valued squads are Manchester City at €1.31bn, Arsenal at €1.23bn, Chelsea at €1.16bn and Liverpool at €1.02bn.

Sunderland sit just below Fulham on €386.95m and above West Ham United on €362.95m and Leeds United on €346.03m, with Everton at €450.45m. That picture underlines the scale of Sunderland’s rise over the last 12 months.
