Sunderland head into a landmark 2026/27, with a supercomputer projecting a 16th-place Premier League finish on 40 points.

According to Betting Lounge, Arsenal are forecast to win the title on 86 points, ahead of Manchester City on 78 and Liverpool on 75. Sunderland are placed just above Nottingham Forest, who are projected 17th on 36, with Hull City, Ipswich Town and Coventry City tipped for the drop on 33, 27 and 24 respectively.

Regis Le Bris and his squad surpassed expectations last season, finishing seventh in the club’s first Premier League campaign for nine years. A final-day win at Chelsea, combined with other results, sealed Europa League qualification alongside Bayer Leverkusen, Olympique Marseille, AC Milan and Juventus.

It will be the first time the Stadium of Light hosts European football, ensuring a genuinely historic season. While the continental campaign will demand attention, Le Bris and the hierarchy also want progress in the FA Cup and Carabao Cup, and to maintain league momentum.
