Sunderland have begun reshaping their squad for 2026/27, with Milan Aleksic and Harrison Jones already leaving. A further 11 fringe players could follow in the coming weeks.

According to Sunderland Echo, Simon Adingra’s January loan to AS Monaco included an option to buy, and there are suggestions the Ligue one side will not take it up. If so, he would return, his next step uncertain.

For goalkeeper Anthony Patterson, an exit feels increasingly inevitable. With Robin Roefs and Melker Ellborg ahead of him and after a late loan at Millwall, a permanent move looks logical.

Abdoullah Ba has slipped from view and, at 22, needs a restart. Injuries have hindered Ahmed Abdullahi, who has shown flashes with the U21s, and a senior loan, fitness permitting, would help.

Alan Browne impressed with Middlesbrough last season, and whether he returns to Teesside or not, a Sunderland departure feels likely. Jenson Seelt, who spent time with VfL Wolfsburg, is less clear, with a move or reintegration both possible.

Nazariy Rusyn has been linked with a return to Ukraine, though he says nothing is agreed, and a departure still appears probable. Timothee Pembele, after a spell at Le Havre, also looks likely to move on.

Arthur Masuaku played only four times before joining RC Lens on loan in January, and it is hard to see that increasing. Aji Alese has endured repeated injuries, his Portsmouth stint was curtailed, and a fresh start could help. Leo Hjelde may need a transfer to reignite his progress.
