The first name that Malo Gusto had on the back of his shirt was a former Tottenham player, admits the man himself!
Obviously Chelsea have a big local rivalry with Tottenham, so hearing this now has a bit of significance about it with Gusto now being a Chelsea player.
As it’s an international break right now, the news is always much slower without Premier League games to reflect on and look towards. So you will often see clubs putting out various interview series with their players, and Chelsea are doing that this week with Gusto.
They put out an article on their website asking the right back about his football firsts. So the first moments in football that he remembers.
One of the first questions asked to the France international is the first shirt he owned as a kid, and that was a Juventus shirt!

On being asked what the first kit he owned was, Gusto replied: “A Juventus kit. There wasn’t a player on the back or anything like that. The first player I had on the back of my kit was Gareth Bale on a Real Madrid kit!”
Gareth Bale was one of Tottenham’s best ever players, but it looks like he had a fan in a young Gusto at the time!
There’s some interesting names in his friend list too. When asked who his first friends in football were, Gusto said:
“Well when I started to play for a professional team at Lyon, there were a few. One was a goalkeeper, Kayne Bonnevie (now at US Quevilly-Rouen), and another was Castello Lukeba, who is now at RB Leipzig. Also, Bradley Barcola, who is at PSG.”
