Thomas Frank predicted Vitinha will be the next Ballon d'Or winner after he starred in Paris Saint-Germain's win over Tottenham.

The Portuguese midfielder scored a hat-trick in the 5-3 victory that moved the holders up to second in the Champions League table.

Vitinha levelled the match just before half-time with a stunning strike from the edge of the box, before again equalising after the break with a brilliant curling finish.

Cristian Romero's handball presented Vitinha with the chance to claim the match ball from the spot and he did just that with a confident penalty.

Ousmane Dembele won the Ballon d'Or earlier this season and Frank is expecting Vitinha to follow suit next year.

"By the way, Vitinha [is the] best midfielder in the world," Frank said after his side's defeat in Paris.

"He will be the next Ballon d'Or winner for me."

Vitinha could face stiff competition, with a number of Europe's best strikers making strong starts to the season.

Kylian Mbappe scored four goals against Olympiacos on Wednesday night to take his tally to 27 goals in 22 appearances for club and country.

Harry Kane, meanwhile, has 14 goals and three assists in 11 Bundesliga matches, to go with five goals in as many Champions League games.

The 32-year-old also has five goals for England this season and will lead the Three Lions' bid for World Cup glory next summer.

Erling Haaland has scored 32 goals in 22 for Manchester City and Norway, who will also be at next summer's major tournament.

Much will depend on who wins the World Cup and the Champions League when it comes to the Ballon d'Or voting.
