Fernandez cast his future into doubt after the defeat to PSG, and has spoken about Madrid on several occasions over the international break.
It’s been reported Madrid would be a dream move for Fernandez, but whether the Spanish giants are able to meet any potential asking price remains to be seen.
Fernandez has established himself as a key player since his arrival from Benfica for £106m in January 2023, and is currently vice captain of the club.
The 25-year-old has made over 150 appearances for the Blues and has helped them win both the Conference League and Club World Cup.
However, it’s clear he’s become increasingly frustrated with the project and lack of progress, and is exploring his options.
Petit feels Fernandez is “tired” of the project, and has claimed Palmer and Caicedo could look to follow him out of the exit door.
“To be honest with you, since the American owners arrived, only a few things have been right. Even the players feel lost,” he said as quoted by Metro.
“When you look at the faces, you know, straight after the game, the spine of the team, Enzo Fernandez, Moises Caicedo, Cole Palmer.
“When you look at their faces, they feel lost, thinking, “Am I right to stay at this club? Am I going to leave the club at the end of the season? I’m tired of what’s happening at the club.”

Petit feels the top players want to win the big trophies and the Blues should be competing at the top with the money spent.
“Those guys want to win a trophy, we saw that last season,” he added.

“But this team should be among the best teams in the Premier League, but also in Europe, with the money they have spent and the players they have you should compete for the best prizes.
‘After five years spending between £1.5 and £2 billion pounds on the transfer market, you have top players, but you don’t know how to play. You have no vision.”
