West Bromwich Albion boss Ryan Mason has provided a fitness update on Manchester United loanee Toby Collyer ahead of his side’s upcoming clash.

Collyer injured

Having joined West Brom on a season-long loan during the summer transfer window, Collyer has racked up nine Championship appearances for the side.

He has primarily had to be content with appearances from the bench but the midfielder was handed a first start earlier this month as West Brown suffered a 3-0 loss at the hands of Millwall.

Collyer started the subsequent game vs. Preston North End but he only lasted 55 minutes as he was forced to come off early in the second half with an injury.

Mason later confirmed that the 21-year-old had picked up a hamstring injury. The issue saw Collyer miss West Brom’s last two meetings against Ipswich Town and Watford. The Baggies lost both matches.

As West Brom aim to get back to winning ways when they welcome Sheffield Wednesday to the Hawthorns this weekend, Mason has issued an update on Collyer.

Mason provides Collyer fitness update

Asked about Collyer and fellow midfielder Jayson Molumby, Mason told Express and Star, “I don’t think they’re going to be back.”

“Obviously Jayson had his injury with Ireland and then made it worse in our game against Preston.”

“Toby’s had three of those injuries at Manchester United last season. He’s a young boy. We need to push him, but we need to be careful because I think you can see the one or two injuries in our squad, we feel it from a numbers point of view.”

Mason added, “We’re seven days on from their injury. We’re assessing them day-by-day, but they’re not going to be out on the pitch for at least the next few days.”

“We’ll see, but it doesn’t look likely for next weekend that either of them are going to be back in the squad.”

Although Collyer won’t feature, United fans will be eager to see how Wednesday’s Harry Amass fares against West Brom.
