According to Superdeporte, Unai Núñez has landed in Manises after Valencia finalised a deal in recent hours. The centre-back has travelled to join the squad and has already discussed his role with Carlos Corberán. He could feature against Espanyol on Saturday at Mestalla if registration is completed in time.
Corberán said an operation for a centre-back was at an advanced stage, adding that involvement this weekend would depend on paperwork and the fact the player has not trained. He avoided naming anyone while the move was not yet official.
Núñez returns to LaLiga after playing regularly for Hellas Verona in Serie A. His desire to make the move, and Verona’s willingness to facilitate it, helped Valencia complete a second winter signing after Sadiq.
The defender turns 29 this month. A Lezama graduate, he made 131 appearances for Athletic Club across two spells at San Mamés and won a senior cap in 2019 under Robert Moreno. He also played 76 matches for Celta de Vigo, and Transfermarkt once valued him at €20 million.
Right-footed but comfortable on the left, Núñez has operated in a back three, as used by Hellas Verona, where he has been a regular. At 186 centimetres, he is strong in the air, robust in duels and capable of long distribution and covering the right-back. He looks a stylistic fit for Corberán’s plans.
